  • Property Narrative

Enjoy country living minutes from Alderson in this spectacular log home with large logs, rafters and beams scored for a hand-hewn appearance. High ceilings, a stone fireplace, an open plan living-kitchen-dining area and a sunroom add to the airy look of the interior. There are 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths, and a garage apartment with an additional 2 bedrooms and bath.

This beautiful 2002 Greenbrier County log home has just about everything. A country road leads from State Route 12 to the property, and a circular driveway winds through the woods to the home’s private setting. A large porch with wood-and-stone pillars overlooks the front yard, lined with a split-rail fence. The home has a classic rustic exterior, echoed tastefully in its interior. The main-level features impressive 10-foot ceilings. All the flooring is oak, and the doors are solid wood.

The living, kitchen and dining areas flow seamlessly into one another, great room-style. The living room has large windows, an antler chandelier, and an eye-catching stone fireplace and hearth with a wood mantel. A sunroom with floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides overlooks the back yard and fire pit, and a rear deck runs the home’s length.

The kitchen’s granite counters include an eat-at counter seating four. There are two stainless-steel sinks, a large one and a smaller prep sink. The cabinetry has an antique birch finish and it incorporates storage for wine bottles and glasses. Appliances include a Whirlpool electric range, a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator-freezer, a Whirlpool microwave and a Maytag dishwasher. A half-bath is near the kitchen.

The master suite is on the main level. This spacious bedroom has 2 log walls, large windows and a walk-in closet. The master bath includes a Lasco jetted soaking tub, a separate shower, and a tile vanity with two cultured marble sinks.

The second level, accessed by an attractive oak staircase, has four bedrooms and three full baths with shower-tubs. One bedroom is presently configured as a laundry room, with a GE washer and Kenmore dryer. This room could alternately serve as an office, playroom, or studio. There are several storage cubbies, and there is a linen closet in the hallway.

The garage apartment is just a few steps from the house, across a covered patio. This apartment includes a small open plan living room-kitchen with a half refrigerator and stainless-steel sink, two bedrooms and a shared bath with shower-tub. Like the home, the apartment has oak flooring. The two-vehicle garage below the apartment includes room for storage.

This exceptionally spacious country property is an ideal full-time home or private vacation getaway. Nature lovers will appreciate the presence of deer and wild turkeys.

The property is only a few minutes from drive from the scenic riverside town of Alderson, which boasts a large annual Fourth of July celebration, and a half-hour from Lewisburg on Route 12 and Interstate 64.

Often described as an ideal small town, Lewisburg offers fine dining, boutique shopping, a golf course, an 8-screen cinema and a lively arts scene. Annual events include the State Fair of West Virginia, two food-themed street festivals and a literary festival. The Greenbrier Valley Theatre, West Virginia’s official state theatre, offers year-round performances, and well-known artists appear in concert at Carnegie Hall. The town is home to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and a campus of New River Community and Technical College.

The Greenbrier is in nearby White Sulphur Springs, about 40 minutes away. A well-known luxury destination, the 11,000-acre resort includes golf courses, a spa, a tennis stadium, a casino, high-end shopping, an art colony and 10 restaurants. The resort hosts an annual PGA tour event and houses a sports facility that several NFL teams have used for summer training camps.

The Greenbrier River draws anglers and kayakers, and the 75-mile long Greenbrier River Trail is popular with hikers and bikers. Snowshoe Ski Resort, to the north in Pocahontas County, is the largest ski complex in the Mid-Atlantic States. Snowshoe offers golf and challenging mountain biking trails in the off-seasons.
