Wiley House faces Washington Street, its spacious covered front porch shaded by mature trees is surrounded by ornamental shrubs. The front door opens on to a central entrance hall leading straight back to a spacious eat-in kitchen. To the left and right of the entrance are two large rooms, each with its original wood-burning fireplace. In the room on the left, which adjoins a full bathroom has been used variously in the past as a library, bedroom and family game room, the fireplace is currently sealed. The room on the right is the original parlor, now living room, with a wood-burning stove installed in the fireplace.
The living room opens on to a sunny dining room with glass doors leading out to a stone patio encircled by flower beds. The adjacent kitchen, which also overlooks the back yard, features a stove-centered island, stainless appliances, and a roomy corner breakfast nook. A convenient pass-through laundry room leads to the main floor bathroom. Also leading off the kitchen is a fully enclosed sun porch which opens on to a small, back porch.
Up the staircase from the center hall lies the second-floor landing and two roomy bedrooms overlooking the front yard. The master bedroom built directly over the living room below has been renovated to reveal the brick and timber construction of the house. It also contains the original fireplace (currently sealed) and mantle, as well as a king-sized loft under the eaves. The loft offers access to attic storage space.
The upstairs bathroom, with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower, lies off the hallway leading to the third upstairs bedroom. The brightest and sunniest room in the house, it stretches across the back of the second floor. A row of windows looks out over the back yard trees and across an open field bordered by woods. This serene view is echoed below from the kitchen, the back porch and patio, and throughout the back yard — giving Wiley House it’s a timeless feeling of secluded country living.
The Wiley House property also features a large two-story garage. The building has been divided into a front 24’x24’ foot parking area for two vehicles, separated by a wall at the rear to create wide, walk-through storage space. A rear staircase leads to a large open loft running the length of the building. Used as an office by the present owner, the loft has the potential to be further finished as a possible guest suite or rental apartment.
